Enham is surrounded by incredible nature which is one of the many things that makes it a special place to live and work. As a result, this year, we’re running a series of nature-themed events and initiatives at Enham as part of a project we’re calling ‘Wild About Enham’.
Our main event, the Big Wildlife Count, will be an open community event on Saturday 6 June, with local schools and corporate partners having joined the day before. Everyone who attends will be invited to explore the village’s accessible nature trail and green spaces and help us record the different species we find.
We’ll have wildlife experts from Andover Trees United and the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust on hand to help you identify species and learn more about the local habitats. The trail is accessible to everyone, and you can register your interest for this free event here: The Big Wildlife Count at Enham.
Know before you go
Before your visit, please read the guidance below:
- The trail through the village is fully accessible, but the carpark is uneven, so please get in touch if you have additional requirements - we'll be happy to help you enjoy your visit.
- We cannot guarantee the weather, so dress appropriately. This might mean an umbrella, raincoat and boots, or it could be suncream and a hat! Please also be aware of uneven ground and that the ground could be slippery when wet.
- The trail is primarily paths and short grass, but there are areas of longer grass to explore too, and the village is surrounded by footpaths into the countryside if you'd like to extend your visit. (Please note that footpaths outside of the village are not part of the Big Wildlife Count.)
- Throughout the trail you can get as up-close as you like with nature or not. Although you're welcome to hunt for bugs and plants, there are lots of more hands-off ways to enjoy the trail too, like looking and listening out for birds. Our experts will have lots of ways you can get involved to suit your needs and preferences.
- Ticks can be active in long grass at this time of year, so be cautious and wear clothing that covers legs if you want to walk through these areas.
- Nature can sting and bite, so if you have a bee, wasp or other allergy, please make sure you're prepared!
- Washing your hands after handling nature and before eating or drinking is essential. Hand sanitiser will be available at the three main nature recording sites in the village. Accessible toilet and hand washing facilities will be in the Landale Wilson Hall, and in the Charity Shop and Tearooms.
- Parking will be at the Landale Wilson Hall, Newbury Road, SP11 6HQ. Overflow parking at the Enham Trust site, SP11 6JS.
